Guide to buy cheaper Wii Console

Posted in Global by G on April 9, 2008

Well this post is slightly off topic to the vtrip, however its still a guide.

Before I suggest the location where to buy I will tell you a little background on why I’m writing this post.

The History:

I’m sure many of you like me looked out for getting a wii console in the retail stores like best buy, circuit city, game stop, eb games, target and you may ended up receiving the response from the store officials that didn’t you got the coupon in less than 3 minutes of the store being open and you would be a 50th person on line.

The reality is I had this experience my self and I hate to say Best Buy is the worst of all and especially in New Jersey area.

The pure fact is its not just the nintendo not able to meet the demand (they are doing what they can), its beyond that. I think I feel its a marketing strategy for stores like game stop / eb games to sell more games in bundle rather than selling the console alone which is cheaper in price of $250 and with taxes about $270.

I feel the employees in the stores like best buy and circuit city take the console selling to the next level via online outside of best buy itself by making people to bid on Ebay, because these guys are fire dogs and geek squads of the americas. The funny part is they talk the words one console per person.

The day i went was a sunday (March 9th) during the confirmed Nintendo shipment and it did arrive that day, I see around 30 people in the best buy store and they did hand over the coupons, I was little away counting and watching what is going on and I went purposefully 3 minutes later and I asked for the coupon, knowing the fact there are only 30 people. The official in best buy says to me that its sold out. No Coupon, No Wii.

Then I asked him:

1. How many consoles did you get this time?
He replies to me about a 100.
2. How many coupons do you give out for each person?
Each will be receiving 1.

And you are telling me all of the consoles are sold out. He replies “yes”.

Well, Now I’m sure its not just the nintendo which is making this happen, its the greed with these people or the best buy corporate greed itself. For heaven sake this is not even a holiday season.

Then I went back and tried to get it online and the only source it was readily available is the Shit Bay sorry Ebay and the console sells in an average about $350 + shipping upto 20$. The funny part is a single person is selling more than 100 consoles at this price and how does he manage to get that much amount of consoles, when retails stores are selling 1 person 1 console/day. There is something more than a nintendo’s supply demand. Its a corporate greed for sure.

As i’m a full time onliner by work Then I started searching how much is the madness in reality, well you get information from wii finder.com, findme.com, F***me.com and all have widgets and softwares which monitoring the wii online sale *mostly ebay*. The reality is they will be mostly successful only on finding the bundles which has the jacked up price of about $660 – $799. Believe me these are junk games into the bundle as well, Walmart.com escapes by allowing you to select the game and list of games is kinda flip flop games, if you don’t know what you are selecting, some of them you will never enjoy.

Gamestop does sell the bundles at a decent price of about $520 after shipping and it will be always a pre-order and they cannot guarantee the shipment on the date and they blame nintendo. There is hoax that they sell consoles on weekeday from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM as well, they are just attempting to get to the stores.

This is not the way US is supposed to work.

Gimme the Wii, Gimme the Wii – I got the Wii! I got the Wii!

The only place you can get the wii is the original price of the console is Nintendo World Store. I got mine today in the greater New york City Area and the Location of this store is Rockefeller Center, by the 48th Street between 6th and the 5th avenue.

The good thing about this store is they sell Wii console every single day and they have about a 100 (i assume) I asked the sales person, do they sell this much every day and she told me, they sell about this much every day. The store opens @ 9:00 AM.

Your best bet to to get less crowd is a weekday ( I went there @ 8:49 AM and I was around the 40th person and I got it) and remember Rockefeller center is one the attractions of New York Cities and the Studio 1A is right behind it, where you will see the Today’s Show hosts as well.

If you are still looking for wii for its what originally worth, don’t spend your time online and avoid all the retail stores if they crapped you out, Just go to this store and if you know a decent retail stores who are honest enough to sell the console for its worth, just add the location of the stores in here is as comments, I will compile and place it in the vtrip website for the users to be aware of this locations.

Do share your experiences. Together “We” can stop this, The purpose of the “Wii” is to be for all and not just the greedy ones.

I think store is available only in NYC. Their World Wide Web address is below:

Just remember this question, Why do you want to pay more, when you can get it for what its worth?
Good Luck!
